Deer Park Plant Sangha Mission Statement
At Deer Park we make offerings to the ancestors of the land. We are
aware that without the support and energy of the land ancestors: the
rocks, the hawks, the soil, the coyotes, the sage, and the oaks, it
would not be possible for us to live and practice on this land today.
We are definitely not alone in Deer Park. We have an active plant sangha
as well. We have a sincere aspiration to live in harmony with this
land, with all the vegetation and animals living on this land. We are
working to develop Deer Park’s landscape in a manner that provides for
beautiful mindfulness practice and that is in harmony with the natural
plants and animals from this region. We are working also to minimize
the use of water which is precious and scarce in this region so our
planting requirements are very specific.
Practitioners and Visitors to Deer Park can help us in three ways:
- You can donate the plant and landscape materials that we need to achieve our aspiration for our Deer Park Sangha. We have a list of specific things we need. Please click here for our current Plant Sangha Wish List. If you have any of these materials or are willing to purchase them for Deer Park, please contact the monastery.
- You can become active in our Mindful Planting group. We are a group of monastics and lay persons who are developing and implementing the landscaping plans together. Contact Laura Hunter at earthlover@sbcglobal.net for more information or to be included on our email list.
- You can join us on our Mindful Work Days. You are invited to join us in celebrating the growing solidarity of our four-fold Sangha once a month as announced. We gather at 8:00 a.m. right after breakfast, in the Solidity Hamlet dining room parking lot.
As always, we invite each of you to spend the night with us to participate in the Sunday Day of Mindfulness. Please call the Deer Park Registrar at (760) 291-1003, Extension 100, to arrange for your overnight lodging. Get on the list…..
